More Ambassador - Glenn - Cakes On Fridays - Melbourne Australia

More Ambassador - Glenn - Cakes On Fridays - Melbourne Australia

Introducing Glenn. I actually don't know where to begin in introducing Glenn as I now have so many stories to share that I can't pick just one!

One story he didn't share, nor does he realise that I know, might have to be the first one..... at this point, I can almost feel him saying... WTH!

I think it was 2 year ago or maybe 3, I was at Cake Bake n Sweet Show in Melb. Had just come off stage to discover hubby had arrived to surprise me and our good friends, Sirley and Ken from Cakers Paradise were there too and we had just all convened in a group chatting around the cake comp area.

One thing you don't know about me is that I am actually very shy and socially awkward, so to be wandering around and people coming up to me, I still find mind blowing and there was this fellow walking around us, trying to not make it obvious he was looking me while trying to stay close as he seemed like he was waiting for the group around me to disperse. I didn't know who he was but I noted his fabulous head of hair.

Fast forward a year and in walks this fellow into one of my workshops, with fabulous hair and for once, as I never remember people, I remembered him from the show.

Not sure what I liked more about Glenn from that moment, his fabulous silver fox looks, he's funny yet highly sarcastic sense of humour, his total passion in learning all things cakes or the 100% dedication to learning every aspect of every detail!

I won't babble on anymore as I now have way too many stories and some not fit for publishing.... please say a big hello to Glenn:

Name: Glenn Jones

Location: Melbourne

Business Name: Cakes on Fridays

Insta Link: https://www.instagram.com/cakes_on_fridays/

Tell us a little about you?

I'm a silver fox with a flair for all things baked and caked! (Moni - I just wanted to say that I gave him that branding, am claiming it when Glenn's famous hahah)

As a Virgo, (Moni - scream!! Omg it's a fussy, judgmental Virgo!!!!) I bring a strong sense of perfectionism to everything I do, practice truly makes perfect. I'm a doer with a keen eye for detail, and I can be sensitive and emotional at times, which helps me connect with my work on a deeper level. (Moni - he's awesome! But don't tell him that I told you that)

I'm driven by creativity and passion in everything I do. I don't believe in doing things just for the sake of it; there should always be a purpose or reason behind them. When I take on a task, I give it my all… I don’t believe in doing anything halfway.

I also think I have a great sense of humour, which often leans towards the sarcastic and cheeky side. I'm fiercely loyal, and when you're in my circle, I'll go out of my way to support you. (🩷)

Career Journey

How did you first get started in the caking/baking industry?

I've always had a passion for cooking, and it started at a young age. While my family was out fishing, playing cricket, or footy, I was in the kitchen with my Nan. In high school, I studied cooking, completed my Certificate IV in Hospitality, and worked in café kitchens.

I like to think of myself as self-taught, but I've also learned from some great influences in my life, from Donna Hay to Cedric Grolet, and from my cake friends, (Camilo and Monica) and to my Nan.

When did you begin your adventure in the caking and baking industry?

On 20 July 2019, I baked my first celebration cake. At the time, I thought it was amazing and that I had nailed it, but looking at the photos now, it kind of looks like something from an episode of “Nailed It!” lol.

It wasn't until 2020 that I truly explored the world of cake decorating. During Melbourne's infamous lockdowns, I found myself becoming more creative and passionate about the world of baking and cake decorating.

Are you a buttercream babe or a fondant Floozy?

Definitely buttercream... Fondant is like the Joker to my Batman—mostly because I'm not as comfortable with it. But that’s changing as I slowly start to branch out of my comfort zone and dabble in it.

If you could start again, what would you change?

I honestly wouldn’t change a thing. Everyone has to start somewhere, and it's all part of my journey and learning process.

But if you ask my husband, Hamish, he’d probably say he’d hide the credit card, haha! I had (and still have) the urge to buy ALL the products imaginable. Hamish likes to joke, “I see you’re funding Monica’s in-ground pool,” whenever he looks at the credit card statement. (Moni - sorry Hamish! You are funding my travel bug and my kids hehe)

Brand Affiliation

How did you come to be involved with the Moreish brand?

In November 2023, I came across one of Monica’s wafer paper video tutorials and thought, "Ahhh, this looks easy. I can do that!" So, naturally, I bought EVERYTHING I needed to make wafer paper roses. (This was the beginning of my “funding the pool” phase.)

I ordered all the products from her website, but then I noticed that Monica was teaching a wafer paper Moreish Rose class at My Dream Cakes here in Melbourne. I had just completed two workshops with Camilo from By Aletoso and couldn’t really justify spending more money.

I messaged Monica on Instagram because I’d forgotten to order one item, and we ended up chatting. I mentioned how my hubby would have a fit if I signed up for another workshop. Monica’s response, "I don’t ask permission anymore from my husband. I figure if I’m a good wifey, look after him, and he likes a happy wife… then it’s a yes," followed by what felt like 100 images of her gorgeous flowers.

Well, 20 minutes later, I had booked the class! (Moni - sorry! hehe)

After completing the class and spending time with Monica, I fell in love with her Moreish range… from the liners to Curl, to Blow! I’ve done several cake workshops, but this one was a game changer for me. It truly unlocked even more of my creative side!

Do you remember how you came to be an amabassador? Do you have a story to tell?

I think it was when I told Monica that I wasn’t going to send her pictures of handsome men while we were in Italy. Haha! (Moni - is true.....)

But before that, in June 2024, Monica asked if I’d like to do some wafer paper demonstrations for the Moreish brand at Melbourne’s Cake Bake and Sweets Show. My response, “Ahhhh, hello, hell yes!”

Then, when I saw that Evelyn was made an ambassador, I must admit I got a little FOMO. I was secretly hoping for a golden ticket, “Moni, I want a golden goose! I want to be an ambassador!”

What is your favorite product from our brand and why?

I have a few favorites, but if I had to choose just one, it would have to be Curl—it’s the one I use the most.

But then there’s Pointy, the liners, More Hard n Sticky, the cuppies, and More Blow… Wait, was I only supposed to pick one?

If you had to recommend 3 products from our range, which would you tell newbies to buy and why?

Hmm, it really depends on what you're aiming to do, but for general baking and caking, here’s what I’d recommend:

  1. The Liners: They give the sharpest edges, bake evenly, and you save money by not having to buy baking paper.
  2. More Max Flavours: These will elevate your cakes, buttercream, ganache, etc.
  3. Curl: I absolutely love this product, it’s a game-changer for me.

And if I could sneak in one more, it would be More Blow, because who doesn’t want or need a bit of sparkle to finish things off?

Can you describe a memorable experience you've had while representing our brand or an opportunity that has come your way because of it?

Representing Moreish Cakes at the Cake Bake and Sweet Show 2024 was truly been a transformative experience for me. This opened my eyes, doors and unleash a whole new passion for me.

Being at the forefront, showcasing my skills, and engaging with people was an incredible experience. I cherished the chance to meet fellow bakers and influential figures in the industry, make new friends (shoutout to Alana, Irene, and Alex), strengthen existing friendships (Moni xxx), and connect with others who share the same passion. It was truly priceless.
